AI in Space: Cybersecurity and Law

The project “AI in Space: Cybersecurity and Law for AI-Based LEO Satellites“, conducted as part of Özyeğin University’s 2026 Summer High School Research Program under the mentorship of Assistant Professor Başak Ozan Özparlak, has been successfully completed.

Over the course of the two-week program, seven high school students engaged in interdisciplinary research exploring the use of artificial intelligence in space, cybersecurity risks affecting Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations, and the legal implications of these emerging technologies from the perspective of information technology law.

At the end of the program, the students documented their research findings in a comprehensive project report. The experiences they gained throughout the program were also captured in a project journal, providing a valuable record of their research journey.

By bringing together technology and law, the project enabled participants to strengthen their interdisciplinary research skills while fostering a collaborative research culture.

The program was further enriched by an online presentation from the Türkiye Space Agency, as well as visits to Özyeğin University’s research laboratories, Information Security Center, OzUBEX, and Technology Transfer Office. Faculty members, researchers, doctoral candidates, and undergraduate students from across the University also contributed to the program, creating a vibrant, research-driven learning environment for participants.
