Özyeğin University recently convened leading representatives from academia and industry to examine how artificial intelligence is transforming architecture and design. Organized by the Faculty of Architecture and Design as part of the OzU AI Research Series,“AI in Architecture and Design Series – Reimagine” created a forum for interdisciplinary dialogue on one of the field’s most consequential transformations.
The event opened with remarks by our President Prof. Barış Tan, and Prof. Aslıhan Ünlü, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design. The opening addresses highlighted that artificial intelligence represents not only a technological development, but also a turning point in how creative disciplines think, design, and produce knowledge.
The keynote address was delivered by Serdal Korkut Avcı, former Executive Design Director at Beko. Offering practical insights into the integration of AI into design processes, Avcı illustrated how next-generation tools are being positioned within contemporary architectural and industrial design practices.
Structured in two sessions, the first session “Education: AI in Architecture and Design” offered a closer look at AI-driven approaches in architectural education. Discussions focused on the use of AI as a pedagogical tool, AI-supported design studio practices, and recent academic research on student experience.
The second session, “Research: AI in Architecture and Design,” highlighted interdisciplinary research, examining the role of artificial intelligence in sustainability analysis, communication design, industrial product development, and the creation of spatial experience.
Throughout the day, presentations and discussions converged on a shared understanding that artificial intelligence is not merely a tool in design, but an emerging mode of thinking and making that is actively reshaping the creative process itself.
